Mental health is a serious issue. Scientists have discovered that what you eat is what your brain is. Therefore, in order to get away from mental problems, you have to take a lot of care about what you put inside your body. There have been a lot of researches that prove that the brain needs a lot of fats to stay healthy. In order to fix your brain, you have to first fix your body. You have to eat healthy food and avoid unhealthy lifestyle. The brain has the strength to recover itself provided you eat healthy food and live a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, you have to start fixing your brain by eating the right food.
In the US, Alzheimer’s is the sixth major cause of death and the seventh major cause of death in the US is diabetes. It is estimated that over 100 million people are living with pre-diabetes or diabetes in the United States. The number is expected to rise by 54 percent by 2030. Just like Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes also affects your brain. Diabetes is a disease of insulin resistance, which is one of the causes of brain damage, neurodegeneration, and cognitive decline. Diabetes mainly occurs because of eating too much carbohydrate, too much sugar, passive lifestyle and not eating healthy fats. Diabetes is a condition of high insulin levels that triggers fat storage.
During the 60s, dieticians and nutritionists started promoting a low-fat diet. They blamed fats for most of the diseases including obesity and diabetes. People began to consume low fats and started eating more refined sugars. When you take a low-fat diet, you start feeling hungry and in order to fill that gap, you begin to eat more sugars. You become fatter than you were before. Eating more refined sugars also develops the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
Therefore, in order to avoid the diseases of the brain or prevent brain damage, you have to eat plenty of healthy fats.
A lot of people believe that eating more fats will cause fat deposits inside your body leading to high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, and even diabetes. However, it has not been proven that when you eat fats, you don’t get fat. The fat deposits occur when you eat a lot of carbohydrates that are converted to glucose. When the body does not use all of the glucose, it starts converting the excess glucose as fat cells. When you restrict carbohydrate and eat more fats, your body uses fats for energy by producing ketones.
The fact is more than 60 percent of the human brain is made up of DHA which is Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is found abundantly in fish oil, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds. Omega 3 plays an important role in supporting and improving brain functions. Omega 3 also regulates metabolism and prevents many mental disorders. When you are consuming fats, you have to avoid saturated fats like hydrogenated oils. Unsaturated fats are good for your body and brain. You have to eat almonds and cheese to replenish your body. You also have to include a lot of vegetables in your diet. Most of the vegetables contain fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K Vitamins. In order to get all the benefits of these vitamins, you have to eat healthy fats.
