How Do You Like Your Coffee? Milk, Cream, Sugar or a Pinch of Salt?

Do you enjoy having a cup of coffee every morning?

As we all know, coffee is one of the most commonly consumed drinks all over the globe.

Numerous studies have examined the effects of coffee on various aspects of our health and the results are not short of amazing. Researchers have demonstrated that coffee is one of the healthiest beverages on the planet, thanks to the many amazing benefits it can offer.

A lot of people like to consume their favorite beverage simply, just like black coffee, while some consumers’ preference is adding sugar or cream to it in order to enhance the coffee’s flavor.

The healthiest way to consume this addictive beverage is simply black coffee. Adding too much sugar or cream to the coffee may amp up too many calories.

Studies have shown that adding a pinch of salt to your coffee can make it taste better. The famous cookbook author Alton Brown suggested that adding a quarter teaspoon of kosher salt to 6 teaspoons of coffee will balance the flavors, and mellow out the bitterness of the coffee.

Research conducted by the Technical University of Munich in Germany showed that only 15% of the bitterness of coffee comes from its caffeine content. The major part of the bitterness is due to two components: Chlorogenic Acid Lactones and Phenylindanes. These compounds are not present in the raw, green coffee beans, only in the roasted ones.

There may be a couple of different reasons as well why the taste of the coffee gets way too bitter: the coffee beans are over-roasted, the coffee beans are of low quality, or over-brewing the coffee. These all could lead to bitter-tasting coffee.

You can add a pinch of salt to your coffee before is brewed or once it is brewed. You can choose your preferred method.

The coffee contains a high level of antioxidants and nutrients, it is not just simply black water. A mug of coffee contains the following nutrients: Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Niacin (Vitamin B3), Potassium and Manganese.

The positive effects of the coffee on our health are the following: it can give you an early morning energy boost, makes you smarter, improves your mood, improves your cognitive functions, improves your long-term memory,(thanks to its caffeine content), can enhance your physical performance, can make you feel energized, it improves wakefulness and attention, improves your brain’s reaction time and concentration, it can protect your body by burning fat (many commercial fat burning supplements contain a considerable amount of caffeine).

Even if there are many benefits to consuming coffee, it is recommended to drink it in moderate amounts.

Coffee lovers will always find new ways of making their favorite beverage tastier, adding a pinch of salt to it is one of the methods. I think it is worth giving it a try. Maybe you will enjoy your morning cup of coffee way more adding a pinch of salt to it.
