How to Choose Vegetables for Indoor Gardening and Outdoor Gardening

Which seeds are best for outdoor gardening and which seeds are best for indoor gardening? Here is a list of some common vegetables and fruits that are good or bad for the indoor seedling.

Tomato: Tomato needs transplanting. You have to first grow the seedlings and then transplant them. Tomato seeds need warmth to grow, however, the plant can survive cold. Thus, the tomato is good for the indoor seedling.

Peppers: There are numerous varieties of peppers and most of the varieties need warmth to grow, but cannot tolerate too much heat. Therefore, the outdoor climate is somewhat not favorable for pepper seedling.

Beans: There are numerous varieties of beans, some beans are creepers and some develops into little bush. Beans do not require transplanting. Therefore, unless you are growing beans indoors, in greenhouse, tunnels etc. beans are not very good for the indoor seedling.

Squash/pumpkins/melons: These plants do not require re-potting; therefore they are not ideal for the indoor seedling.

Radish/diakon/carrot/turnip/potato: These plants are directly sowed in the soil where they will grow and become mature. These plants cannot be transplanted because when you uproot them their roots will be disturbed and may not grow again. You can, of course, grow these vegetables indoors in greenhouse or plastic tunnels, but seeding indoors or outdoors is unnecessary.

Cauliflower/cabbage/broccoli: Seeds of these vegetables grow well in the controlled environment. They cannot tolerate too much water, too much heat, too much cold. They will be easily killed by ants or other insects. The seedlings are so flimsy that they will be easily broken by a gust of wind. Therefore, seedlings of these vegetables should always be grown indoors.

Lime/lemon/orange: Seedlings of these citrus fruits can be grown indoors; however, you should make sure that the seedlings get enough sunlight. If you cannot provide sunlight for the seedlings, you should place them outdoors.
