The Best Method to Prevent and Manage Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that occurs when the pancreases cannot function properly. Diabetes is a condition when your pancreas cannot produce the required amount of insulin or even when it produces enough insulin your body does not respond to the insulin well. The result is abnormal levels in blood sugar levels. Diabetes can be categorized into various types, for example:

Type 1 Diabetes: In this diabetic condition, the pancreas is unable to produce the required amount of insulin needed for the body to process glucose.

Type 2 Diabetes: In this diabetic condition, the pancreas produces insulin, however, your body is resistant to insulin

Gestational Diabetes: This diabetic condition occurs in women who are expecting a child. In most cases, blood sugar will normalize after the delivery.

Steroid-induced Diabetes: A diabetic condition that occurs when a person starts using drugs

Juvenile Diabetes: A diabetic condition that occurs in children

Type 1 diabetes occurs in adolescents, whereas  Type 2 diabetes occurs in older adults. Gestational diabetes is common in pregnant women. In order to find out whether you have diabetes or not, you have to run a blood sugar test. The normal range is 60-110 in fasting, if your glucose level is below 60, you are low in blood sugar and if you have more than 110, you have a high blood sugar level.

Irrespective of the types of diabetes you have, the major problem associated with the diabetic condition is the inability to utilize glucose by your body. When you have diabetes, your body cannot transport glucose into the cells. The result is excess glucose in your bloodstream. In order to control diabetes, you have to lower your glucose levels in the blood. You can lower blood sugar levels through medication, diet, and exercise.

Some diabetes types cannot be prevented as they occur due to other conditions, for instance, Gestational diabetes occurs in a woman when she is pregnant. However, some types like Type 2 can be prevented if you maintain body weight, eat low-carb diet, and do regular exercise. Type 2 diabetes can be easily managed through exercise and diet. Exercise and diet regulate insulin functions, lowers blood sugar levels by making the muscles use more glucose, and prevent excess weight gain.

Even though you cannot prevent some types of diabetes, you can easily prevent Type 2 diabetes by eating a lot of vegetables, eating fewer carbohydrates, and doing regular exercise.  When you have diabetes, you need to know about the right food for diabetics and eat only those foods that have low sugar content. You will also have to exercise regularly. Exercise reduces blood sugar levels substantially. Eating foods with low carbohydrates, avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and refined sugar, and sugary foods, and exercise will increase the performance of your pancreas as well as prevent insulin resistance in the body. Medication is not the solution for diabetes, you have to combine exercise and diet with diabetic pills.

One of the common complications that develop in diabetic individuals is the circulatory problem such as high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. Exercise helps in controlling cholesterol and blood pressure. When you have diabetes, there is poor blood flow in the lower areas of your body. Exercise improves the circulatory system.

Sometimes exercise can be risky for diabetic individuals. When you exercise, your body becomes more sensitive to insulin as it uses more sugar. This can result in low blood sugar that leads to hypoglycemia. Therefore, you should always measure your blood sugar levels before and after exercise. Even though exercise can be risky for diabetic individuals, it is necessary to perform regular exercise to control your blood sugar levels. If you are prone to low blood sugar levels after exercise or dieting, you can maintain your sugar levels by drinking juice immediately. If you are working out, you should always inform others that you are diabetic.

You should always pay close attention to how you feel while you are working out or after work out regime. If you experience unusual palpation and unusual perspiration; if you feel shaky or hunger, these symptoms indicate that sugar level in your body is getting low.

Diabetes can cause heart disease and vision impairment. It can also hamper sexual performance. Most of these complications associated with diabetic conditions can be easily managed through regular exercise.  Therefore, whether you have diabetes or are prone to diabetes, you should regularly exercise. However, you should make sure that you exercise in moderation.

Developing diabetes does not stop your life. You can continue to enjoy life if you pay attention to your diet and perform regular exercise. Exercise will help you put your life back on track.
